Moving, Motion, and Emotion

Ravelsway

A colorful, swirling infinity symbol with the word "Ravelsway" written below it on a dark background.

This album holds the songs that were written just before and after the move to Maine, so they tend to be very introspective, proximal, and topical, albeit with consequent occasional forays into more distal space and time (in various directions).

The song order follows a thematic throughline:

  • Ravelsway sets the stress-dampening, nesting/nestling context.
  • In the Maine identifies the prompting event of the move.
  • Sooner or Later lists some of the immediate challenges with a resilient mindset.
  • Take a Break says that I can moderate my approach more healthily without betraying ingrained family traditional ethics.
  • Solitary Empathy identifies a specific energy resource dynamic to adjust… one that had eluded me.
  • No-Mow May describes an example of celebrating a relaxed, appreciative approach to this new life.
  • Try Try Try is a wryly humorous assessment of success/failure at with adaptation.
  • Properly Prepared expresses Maine-specific outcomes and the association with being (im)properly prepared.
  • By Any Other Name is a plea for the world/audience to try peace and love in specific.
  • Intimate Rhythms presents a combination of two topics:, namely: snacking and romantic-ness (i.e., not specifically romance, as such).
  • What is Her Name? is about a specific, historical wife.
  • Falling in Love is about working diligently and resolutely to build a home and life that you love.
  • Nice and Quiet describes healthily cutting loose past trauma (but not one’s Self) in order to more freely pursue a happy future.
  • Deer on the Lawn is about healing from trauma, taking the next steps, and appreciating Maine.

This is the first of my albums that actually has a title track, which acts as the meaningful trunk that branches into all of the other songs, written next-to-last and containing references to scattered points across the album.

On a technical note, TuneCore stopped accepting any submissions that have any sort of overlap with Suno, so I am having to change distributors. LANDR looks good, but they only allow 12 submissions per calendar month when they have anything to do with AI (where I understand their need for a throttle), and I found this all out just after June started. So I am likely having to delay the release of the album until July (i.e, upload 12 sings during June, then the remaining 2 in July, and then release the album). This will likely become a non-issue when Suno settles with the remaining two distributors in the lawsuit (having already settled with one of them) and releases their new version, but I don’t want to wait that long just to submit to TuneCore’s ass-covering (thinly disguised as a hi-falootin’ ethical stance).
